Steven Lowy has represented a broad array of clients in the entertainment industry for over forty years. From estates of musical legends such as Bill Evans, Chet Baker, Tim Hardin and Louisiana’s native son Kid Ory, to newly signed major label artists, his music clients have spanned almost every type of client and genre of music, from artists, songwriters and producers of rock and pop e.g. Ronnie Wood, Third Eye Blind, English Beat, Jane’s Addiction, Mary Wilson: George Thorogood; Canned Heat, Pat Boone, The Grass Roots, Jacob Lutrell, Jennifer Hudson; Gospel (e.g. Mano Hanes) Jazz (e.g. Chet Baker, Bill Evans, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Shadowfax); R&B: Louis Price, Mary Wilson; Hip Hop; American Songbook (Jules Styne); Folk; EDM, Swamp Pop, and Reggae, as well as many record and publishing companies who have put out and broken major artists (e.g. Shelter Records: Tom Petty, Dwight Twilly, Leon Russel, J.J Cale; RBC: Gucci Mane, Chief Keef; Dangerous Records: Bloods + Cripps; Criterion Music, Warner/Chappell and Wemar Music.

For many years, Mr. Lowy has represented film makers, screen writers, novelists, poets, film production and distribution companies, talent agencies, and financiers as well as actors and other above and below the line film and television talent and personnel. Mr. Lowy has handled several high value asset sales of music, film, and television rights. 

Additionally, Mr. Lowy has provided counsel to a broad variety of businesses and individuals from dentists, inventors, real estate investors, home office families, fashion designers, to organic food manufacturers and farmer’s markets. 

Mr. Lowy utilizes a team of highly skilled lawyers and others to service his clients’ diverse legal issues and assists clients in managing legal issues outside his own specialty.

Mr. Lowy values the many relationships he has maintained with his clients over several years. His first client who wrote songs for the Beach Boys and John Cougar Mellencamp (among others) remains his client.

Mr. Lowy participates in many community-oriented causes such as being a:

  • Founding board member and past President of the summer classical music festival The Malibu Strawberry Creek Music Festival (10 years)

  • Director of the Wild Ginger Philharmonic Orchestra

  • Past director of Southern California Students of Performing Arts Foundation

  • Participation in the Southwestern University School of Law and ASCAP Mentor Programs

  • Senior Arbitrator for the Los Angeles County Bar Association Attorney/Client Relations Committee, and Judge Pro Tem, Beverly Hills Municipal Court.

Mr. Lowy was on the Board of Advisors to the California Institute for the Preservations of Jazz, Director of the Association of Independent Music Publishers (AIMP). As president and director of AIMP, Mr. Lowy has moderated panels on current trends in music publishing, audit strategies and copyright law. As an adjunct professor (2008-Present), Mr. Lowy taught a course in Music Publishing Law at Southwestern Law School’s Biederman Entertainment Law Institute and lectures extensively to various audiences at California University of the Arts, UCLA and at a Southern Louisiana Songwriters Festival and Conference, and South Screen.

Mr. Lowy has been engaged as an expert in probate, bankruptcy, tax, and debtor examination matters to analyze and opine on copyrights, income streams and catalogue evaluations.
